One thing about Dick Purvis - you never know where he will show up next. Sure enough, as I opened yesterday's LA Times - there he was! Dick has been in a lot of publications over the years, but I believe this is one of his finest features.

This generous man has energized every member of our club, resulting in the highest bluebird fledging rates in the State of CA. All of us at the Southern CA Bluebird Club salute Dick for his decades of work. He is an inspiration, a mentor, a true leader, and an all around nice guy.

Let there be no doubt - one man can make a difference.

I saw your show on pbs, I have seven blue bird boxes on my property and 10 on other property around the area I get bluebirds, house wrens, white brested nuthatches, tree swallows and different sparrows that nest. I make my own boxes and use 1 3/8 hole size and have them 6 feet off the ground and so far they haven't been disturbed. It never occurred to me that an organization like yours and mine could be doing the same thing I am shure there are others this is good news . I am located in the foothills of Tuolumne county about 2500 foot elevation we also have owls, hawks and other birds. Ron
