We held our March 2007 meeting yesterday on the patio of a coffee shop in Laguna Hills. Fifteen enthusiasts showed up including some new friends from LA County. Al Moreno of Whittier told the group he was working on the creation of a huge trail at the Rose Hills Cemetery. If you have ever been there you know how big that place is. Dick Moore of Clairmont advised he is working with the City of Clairmont to create trails in their parks.

Congratulations to Linda Violett for hosting the first set of eggs this season. One of her 'mansions' in Yorba Linda
has a full nest with eggs.

Dick Purvis and Bob Franz had with them 3 large poster boards containing North, Central, and South Orange County maps. Each map contained a star at every location there is a known bluebird trail. My friends, let me tell you, those maps were covered with stars from top to bottom. The number of nestboxes in Orange County is incredible. This is one impressive presentation.

Dick Purvis also brought along his collection of bluebird books. Most impressive was the March 1977 issue of National Geographic that contains an article about the shrinking bluebird population at the time. According to Dick, it was this article that mobilized conservationists to create the North American Bluebird Society (NABS). That was exactly 30 years ago this month. Fascinating.

On a beautiful spring morning, we shared good coffee, fellowship, and talked about bluebird conservation. That combination is hard to beat.

There is great anticipation of the 2007 nesting season which officially begins right now.
